  • The story of "The Mousetrap" is set after Agatha Christie's book of the same name. The show starts with news of a murder in London. A storm hits, and a group of seven strangers find themselves in a guesthouse. A sergeant appears during their stay and tells them the killer is in their company, starting to build suspicion among them. The costumes are all stereotypical of the 1950s, which is something that is played on during the play. The cast worked together to build suspense during the show. I felt they all had their moments to shine on the stage. The set is the lounge of the guesthouse with many different entrances and exits, which is how they did transitions by using different entrances and exits. The show felt a little flat, and I figured out the murder before the interval. It felt predictable, but also, hearing other audience members, they had figured it out too. Maybe it's due to the show being on so long and just losing the suspense it had 73 years ago, and also some of the dialogue felt a little nondescript. If you are a fan of the books, it would be interesting to compare notes.

Cast takes a bow on a wooden stage with ornate walls and red curtains. People applaud in the foreground. Cozy atmosphere.

The nearest tube station is Leicester Square, which is not step-free. They have a ramp at the main entrance for wheelchairs. I won't lie, I really struggled with access for this one. The staff couldn't give me any signs of loud noises. I also explained how I was hard of hearing and wanted to know where the speakers were, and they took me down to the theatre to show me, but then told me they could move me further away, which felt a little strange when I said I lip-read.
